All of this and more are posed by his co-host Darrell Craig Harris as they start their open dialogue on the new “Looking Good Feeling Great Podcast.”
For a start, you will be in no doubt about the love, passion, dedication, and empathy that Dr Roth has for his patients and community. Plus, he always seems to add in a wonderful witty comment when you least expect it!
Here’s a taster for this episode and more - hear Dr Roth explain to Darrell as a non-medical person how making a difference in people's lives involves many facets in Dr Roth’s work.
Listen as Dr Roth explains why it takes a long-time (often 12 years) to fully train to be an accomplished certified plastic surgeon, to learn some of the soft skills through multiple experiences, and hone your judgment on what to do or not to do for the well-being of your patient. Having foresight is key to a successful outcome for all parties.
The first decade of this long journey is often in an operating theater environment. Essentially your the captain of the ship, sometimes the best-learned lessons are when unexpected surgical problems present themselves and it’s how you respond rather than react at that moment.
Another element Dr Roth and Darrell start to explore in this episode is skin burns which also fall under the remit of plastic surgery. This is a very critical area, especially in an emergency situation as the attending doctor has to evaluate so many important factors in real-time so the patients are best supported. In fact, while in Philadelphia, Dr Roth and a good friend who is also a reconstructive surgeon and department head, co-authored a handbook on the subject – a quick-form concise definitive guide that doctors could read before their respective tour in the burns unit allowing the medical staff to be better prepared. This was way back in the 1990s.
As this episode and future episodes progress many areas are touched on to help YOU the listener gain a better understanding and appreciation of what is essentially a mix of human body and mind engineering, coupled with great artistry and foresight.
